Crap Towns - can we sue?

Just a passing thought but one that never fails to make me spit bile when I walk up my high street.

I moved to Farnham in Surrey four years ago.  The house prices weren’t cheap but I found that justifiable as there were a huge amount of independent shops and it felt like the place had real soul.

Now, four years down the track, I’m finding I might as well have moved to Basingstoke.  Butchers - gone. Deli - gone. Fish shop - gone.  Now we have about 8 different phone shops and if you need a chain store coffee - you’re sorted.  Obviously not enough people were using the local, independent shops - so they couldn’t pay the rent etc …  But my question and irritation is towards the council.  How can they have an overview for a town and let all of the shops that give it character go and bring in the Orange, The Link, O2 and all those other dreary crap houses?

I almost wonder whether we should be allowed to sue our local councils because, frankly, they’ve wrecked the town I moved to. It’s now an identi-kit of every other bobbins suburb with no heart and soul.

Sermon over.  I thankyou.
