When I write ploop TV - my jaw aches as I’m in such a blue funk. I loathe the way TV prostitutes the desperate to get viewers. It’s cyncal wankery - make out that you really care by doing a ’sensitive docmentary’ while the subject matter is basically a circus freak we all gawp at.

A while back I posted this - the basic made-up premise is that an evil TV company turns organ donation into a TV competition. Imagine my jaded surprise when I turned on the radio to be greeted with this. What absolute captalist morons Endemol are - I almost wonder if they’ve been reading the plooptionary for ideas. Be very suspicious if any of these ideas turn up on TV!

  4. I predict that there will be a reality show someday where people compete for funeral plots.

  5. Mr. Ploop,

You fret so. Haing worked in television for many years, I can assure you that television exists (in most free economies) as a business for profits. They sell advertising space. Programs and quality of programs are entirely incidental.

Reality TV, of course has changed things around for the producers… because not only do the TV companies pay for the programs to sell their advertising space…but viewers pay the producers to vote for their favorite mugs.

Your projected scenario isn’t satirical…it just needs to be market-tested for profitability. By the way, none of the majors are interested in a Reality TV show about bloggers.

  6. You’re right - I wouldn’t. I’m simply amazed that, a tongue in cheeck post about the desperation in TV commissioning circles has made it to TV. Truly, truly revolting

  7. I’m surprised they don’t have a digital display of the audience share scrolling at the bottom of the screen.

And how would you like to have this show as a resume credit. Ugh.
