The Plooptionary is pleased (and mildly anxious) to announce a new series - taking proven mathematical formula and applying them to wildly unlikely settings.
it is, as plooptionary posts always aim to be, highly interactive and will only really come to life when the hugely talented and creative members of the Ploop world bring their thinking to bear on the subject.
The first in this occasional series takes the much loved, and i’m sure much used, Boyle’s Law for the expansion of gases and applies it to the G8 summit.
PV = k
…as every schoolboy and girl knows …
where P is the pressure of the gas, V the volume of the gas and k a constant - it’s used as a way of predicting the effect of change. As P goes up, V must go down.
Useful for gases no question but also perhaps extremely useful for understanding summits of world leaders.
If k (as the constant) means, in this contest, ‘no real agreement reached on anything’
what could P and V stand for?
A couple of examples to get you started:
P = pressure from global protestors armed with organic carrots and mace
V = volume of informed press coverage on actual issues
P = pressure on America to make any concession that they might be the teeniest weeniest ickle bit accountable for climate change
V = volume of Scientists who will publicly stand up and say it
P = pressure on Lindsey Lohan to buy her own rehab and save on future bills
V = volume of information about world poverty Vladimir Putin can possibly retain from one moment to the next (he is of course a massive Lohan fan and owns platinum copies of both Freaky Friday and The Parent Trap)
we look forward to these pitiful examples being hopelessly shown up by your brilliant thoughts.
and for those of you who like to plan ahead i’ve got two words - Hooke and Law. I know. i can barely wait either!
Enjoy…
